On 26.02.2025, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) organized a meeting with the Albanian Microfinance Association on the “Education Strategy and Public Awareness on the Risk of Preventing Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (ML/TF)”.

This meeting was organized at the premises of the Albanian Microfinance Association with the participation of about 20 members.

Representatives of the FIA at this meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships in the joint fight against money laundering and financing of terrorism (ML/TF) in order to combat these phenomena that negatively affect the economic development of the country.

During the meeting, the discussion also focused on strengthening cooperation and the very important role that the private sector has in contributing and cooperating within the framework of the Inter-Institutional Technical Working Group (ITWG). During their work, the members of the association should pay attention to educating clients on ML/TF issues and the risk that this phenomenon carries, taking enhanced vigilance measures for PEP clients, non-residents and high-value transactions, and paying increased attention to reporting suspicious cases.

The meeting emphasized that FIA remains available to organize training and would appreciate cooperation with the Albanian Microfinance Association on preventive measures that should be taken by this sector during their daily activities.

In conclusion, the participants thanked and expressed their willingness to increase cooperation so that the country has the best possible results in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
