Meeting with representatives of the Council of Europe office in Tirana in the framework of strengthening the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.

The General Director, Mr. Ervin Koçi, had a working meeting today with the acting Head of the Council of Europe office in Tirana, Mr. Olsi Dekovi, to discuss the possibilities of cooperation and coordination of assistance for the General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering (GDPML) in strengthening the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.

  1. Koçi expressed his gratitude for the assistance granted by the Council of Europe over the years to GDPML, underlining in particular the effectiveness and professionalism in this cooperation. Also, Mr. Koçi emphasized the priority and goals of GDPML in terms of reorganization and increased performance to face future challenges in terms of technological or administrative developments, where the support of foreign assistance is essential as well as its coordination between donors is also of particular importance.

In this meeting, Dekovi paid special attention to the role that GDPML is playing in the good coordination of foreign assistance to Albanian institutions in order that the aid provided meets the needs and priorities in this direction. He also ensured the provision of assistance by the Council of Europe to GDPML, through the Action against Economic Crime in Albania, part of the “Horizontal Instrument for the Western Balkans and Turkey III”, a joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
