On April 23-24, 2025, with the support of the EU4LEA2 project, co-financed by the European Union and the German Government, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) organized a Mock exercise focused on Immediate Outcome 5 (IO5). The activity aimed to enhance the capacities of Albanian responsible institutions and private sector representatives regarding beneficial ownership transparency and the adoption of preventive measures to avoid the misuse of legal persons for money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF).
During the two-day training, measures and positive practices were demonstrated, including:
- Institutional cooperation for access to the beneficial ownership register.
- Populating the register with accurate and reliable data, through cooperation between law enforcement institutions and reporting entities under anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws.
- Investigating cases of misuse of legal persons for money laundering.
FIA, as the coordinating authority for the evaluation process of Albania’s 6th round assessment by the Moneyval Committee, will continue meetings with public institutions and the private sector to increase awareness and effectiveness in implementing preventive measures in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
