Meeting with representatives of the Delegation of the European Union in the context of cooperation and project implementation.

Within the framework of ongoing cooperation and the strengthening of institutional capacities, a working meeting was held between representatives of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) and the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana.

The Director General of the FIA expressed sincere appreciation for the continuous support provided by the European Union, particularly to Ms. Tarlettti and Ms. Varlese, whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment have made a valuable contribution to strengthening the operational capacities of the institutions. He conveyed special and heartfelt thanks for the close cooperation and sustained support delivered through various projects, especially within the framework of the EU4LEA2 project, highlighting the high regard for their role in enhancing and consolidating institutional capacities.

Representatives of the FIA presented the Agency’s current priorities, as well as the concrete steps undertaken in the context of implementing the Growth Plan. They outlined the measures adopted by the responsible institutions for the implementation of the National Strategy on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, along with developments related to the implementation of the action plan stemming from the National Risk Assessment. Progress achieved in the process of harmonizing the legal framework with the European Union acquis was also discussed.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed opportunities for continued support under ongoing and future projects, particularly regarding investments in systems and technological tools for the FIA. In this context, the importance of strengthening technical and infrastructural capacities was emphasized, with the aim of increasing operational efficiency, improving analytical processes, and ensuring a faster and more effective response to risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
