Consultative Meeting between the Financial Intelligence Agency and NAREA on the Draft Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing

On 25 June 2026, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) held a consultative meeting with representatives of the National Association of Real Estate Agents (NAREA), as part of the process of aligning Albania’s legal framework with the European Union acquis in the field of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the institutional dialogue and enhance cooperation with NAREA, one of the key private sector stakeholders playing an important role in the implementation of legal requirements and national and European standards in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
During the meeting, FIA representatives presented the main provisions of the new Draft Law “On the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing”, which has been prepared within the framework of Chapter 4 – Free Movement of Capital, Section 4.3 – Fight against Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
The presentation focused on the key amendments and innovations introduced by the draft law, which seeks to further align Albania’s legal framework with the European Union’s sixth Anti-Money Laundering Package, while strengthening measures to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Participants exchanged views on the practical implementation of the new legal requirements, the challenges that reporting entities may face, and the need for continued cooperation between public institutions and the real estate sector to strengthen national mechanisms for the prevention and fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Financial Intelligence Agency expressed its appreciation for NAREA’s valuable contribution and commitment throughout the consultation process and reaffirmed its readiness to continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure the development and effective implementation of a sustainable legal framework fully aligned with European Union standards and international best practices.
